Little Helper

Madelyn decided that she was going to make breakfast this morning.

Step 1: Unload cupboard to find pan (not much to unload in this place).

Step 2: Climb on chair with pan and place on table

Step 3: Concentrate really hard to stir just right

Step 4: Pour contents onto table and scrap pan clean.

Several things about this episode this morning caught my attention. The first is how often she amazes me at her determination to accomplish what she wants. She wanted the pan on the table so she hauled it up. This trait of pure determination to get what she wants and work hard to get there will be an excellent asset to her as she goes through life. This determination also makes her a very strong willed child, who is a challenge to discipline. The second observation is how much she is starting to develop an imagination and pick up from watching us. She likes to be at the table so she can see the stove and pretend to put the pan on it, just like mommy. (Then she blows because she has been told it is hot).

On a different note:
Bathtime is not one of Madelyn's favorite times. She likes play time, but hair washing and getting dressed afterwards are always quite traumatic. She is equally as determined to get out of things she doesn't like as she is to get what she wants. This particular morning's bath ended up with the need for her ultimate comforters...her blankie and pacifier. It was a battle to remove them in order to replace them with breakfast.
