There are several copper mines around the island -- started by the Indians -- taken over in the 1800s by folks from the US and several mining towns were established on the island. Never produced much copper so things were shut down by the 1850s already. Oh course we had to go down the the mine shaft to see what was inside.
A good view of the Island on top of the grennstone ridge trail
Sunrise on the last morning. We took off from our campsite at 5:30 because we had to catch the boat by 8:00. We had enough time that we could stop and take in a great morning view.
Got this shot from the ever swaying boat. There are several lighthouses around the island. When you look at the map of Isle Royale there are at least 8 sunken ships that are marked on the map...something to think about when you are riding on a boat around the Island:) All ended well and I am back on dry land and it is back to work tomorrow.
