For over 2 years Jason has struggled with pain in his hip/groin. He has been to physical therapy, chiropractors, acupuncturist, the pain clinic, and multiple dr. with various specialties...none of which could give him an answer for his pain. Finally in October he took action to see a dr. in Iowa City who could potentially give him some answers. After an MRI and CAT scan...neither of which gave any definitive answers, the dr. narrowed it down to a sports hernia, which requires surgery. No doctors in Iowa operate on this rare injury, so we were sent to Minneapolis where Jason underwent surgery this past Friday. He was almost giddy before surgery because it marked what we hope is the beginning of healing and the end of the pain he has endured for these last few years.
We had hoped the surgery would be laproscopic, but instead he has a three inch incision. Little did we know that when they opened him up, they would find the sports hernia, but also a more typical hernia. The poor guy ran a half marathon and biked 2 RAGBRAI's, in addition to the field work he does with TWO hernias! We are so thankful the doctor was able to finally find the cause of the pain and repair them! We hope and pray that after he heals from the surgery that his pain will finally be gone and that he can once again do the things he loves to do...run, bike and ski...all without pain.
Jason's last "meal" before surgery...
Jason was surprised by how much pain he was in. We were thankful for the friends we were able to stay with while in Minnesota. We traveled back on Sunday and this is where Jason has spent much of his recovery time.

He has all he needs...food, his phone, laptop...
