Mom's 60th Birthday

Mom (Jason's mom Gloria), celebrated her 60th birthday this weekend. She often comments on the blessings of family, so we spent a lot of family time together this weekend. It seems the theme of the year is to make memories with family. As you saw from an earlier blog, all the men attempted a skiing adventure in Colorado. While the boys were enjoying the mountains, mom treated us ladies and the grandchildren to an indoor waterpark adventure in Des Moines. The grandkids loved the water and we enjoyed the fellowship and building memories together.

On Saturday we continued that theme and started our memory making at the I-MAX theatre in the Science Center to view The Alps. It was an interesting documentary (Jason now wants to take up extreme mountain climbing). After wandering around the Science Center, we headed downtown for supper. We were a bit too earlier for our reservations, so a relaxing stop at a coffee shop seemed a perfect way to pass the time. Dinner at Azalea's and dessert at Tim and Lonita's was a tasty way to end the evening.

Kurtis and Lisa worked hard to get mom's gift together. They spent the last month sifting through old photos and put together a beautiful bound picture book of the highlights of her last 60 years, many of which involved her family and a few crazy college shots.

On Sunday the VerMeer clan joined us for lunch to help continue the celebration. The picture is of Gloria and her mom (97 yrs old). What a blessing to continue to make memories with Grandma VerMeer.
