Towers

Our family received our first set of building blocks for Christmas this year. Some of you may think that it is a terrible thing that a 2 1/2 year old has never had anything to build with. This was a conscious choice. We had observed her attention span with other peoples' building materials and realized that her only interest was in knocking down towers, but she had no attention span to actually build them.
Finally she has shown an interest in actually constructing towers, but often comes in complaining that they won't stay up. "Towers fall down!" She may be lacking a bit of architectural logic in building appropriate bases for skyscrapers.
We have also found it interesting that she refuses to build towers with a variety of colors. She will only build blue towers and she tends to match the pieces according to size when she is building, as you can see from the picture above. She was very proud of this tower and insisted on a picture with tower and mommy.
Maddy built the blue tower and insisted I build towers for her baby. Of course, they weren't blue blocks, so she couldn't possibly build them on her own :) I tried to really mix it up and use a variety of colors for each tower, but she would tear them apart and separate the colors again, insisting I build baby a green tower, then yellow, then red.
